erpOwnsPrice Kort BeskrivningIn this magnificent book, we explore the Swedish capital Stockholm from the water that surrounds and defines it. Built across a chain of islands, Stockholm is truly an archipelago city. Through more than 200 stunning photographs, maps, and illustrations, readers are invited to see the city with fresh eyes. The book offers a sweeping journey through buildings, quays, islands, bridges, canals, and waterfront promenades. It is rich with scenes of archipelago boats, sailing, paddling, fishing, shipping, and architecture—interwoven with history and geology. At its heart, the book presents a comprehensive portrait of how nature and water have shaped the city: how geological forces created the archipelago and Lake Mälaren, why the city emerged where it did, and how life continues to evolve along its shores. The story begins millions of years ago and carries through to the latest developments in architecture. The book is the result of a collaboration between photographer Jeppe Wikström and architect Per Kallstenius. Wikström, one of Sweden’s most renowned photographers, has published numerous books on Stockholm and its archipelago. Kallstenius served as Stockholm’s City Architect from 1984 to 1989 and again from 1994 to 2010—longer than anyone else in the role. He had a deep passion for illustrating the city’s development over time.
